I was inspired by Balenciaga’s wedding dress and the shapes that the baby doll dress formed on the body. When thinking about how Balenciaga became popular in the fifties, I wondered how most women would have dressed in the style of Balenciaga, while still keeping the typical housewife garments on. When researching more about housewives in the fifties I found that many would be given substances to propel their energy furthermore, in order to complete chores around the house. This inspired me to look through Rei Kawakubo’s deconstruction approach to emphasize the element that these women were secretly suffering from substance abuse. This garment withholds the elements of a housewife while keeping the shapes and construction of Balenciaga and Kawakubo.
